Support for a literary guild -
Since 1994, James Stevenson Publisher has produced books about California or American history. In May of 2006 we established Ravenswood Court Publishing, at which time we began also to accept manuscripts for books in other subject areas. Now, in 2011, James Stevenson Publisher is seeking to bring together writers in Benicia, California, a city which has been known for years as a center of creative talent in the visual and performing arts as well as poetry.
We have discussed, with individuals and groups, a new organization, a literary arts guild. Although a recent Benicia Herald article suggested a structure to the organization, the final form of a Guild will be decided by all stakeholders. At present, ideas are offered to stimulate discussion and to draw interested parties together. Anyone interested in participating in the organizing of a Benicia Literary Arts Guild may direct questions to Jim Stevenson at the email address at the bottom of the page. Benicia author Lois Requist has also suggested that interested parties may contact her at lois@requist.com. As a partner in the development of a literary guild, the Benicia Herald and its editor, Marc Ethier, encourage those interested in participating to contact the Herald at their blog at http://beniciaherald.wordpress.com/, through their email, Benicia Herald@gmail.com or at their office at 707-745-0733. Email for Jim Stevenson should go to james.stevenson@jspub.com .
Our main concern as we get underway with a Benicia Literary Arts Guild, is to find a home for it within one of the several non-profit organizations here in town. We have had some initial discussions, but nothing has been firmed up to create a permanent home for the fledgling group. Organizational meetings in early April are anticipated. Let us know if you would like to join a writer's group, or proof-read, help with some record keeping or otherwise assist in growing the Benicia Literary Arts Guild.
