At
last! The complete research by local
historian
James Ramirez
The
Legend of Francisco Solano, Cultural Myths, Frontier Nostalgia,
and How Solano County Discovered the "Chief"
In
2006 the Solano County Historical Society celebrated it's 50th
anniversary. Sometime prior to this celebration, Society
President Mary Highham called James Stevenson Publisher and
nominated Mr. Ramirez's manuscript for publishing, hoping to
produce this outstanding research effort in a cooperative
project. The book was produced and was presented
at the society's anniversary meeting
The
book was carefully vetted by the publisher with a scholar
known to be informed about "Chief Solano," Clyde
Low. Having himself written an article about the Patwin Indian
who was baptisted Francisco Solano, Mr. Low was well suited to read
the manuscript and comment. He was excited to see Mr. Ramirez's
work made available to a wide audience, particularly as it debunked,
among other things, some ideas about the relationship
of the Chief and General Vallejo.
Also
available from the author and local bookstores in the Fairfield
